Sketch from Flat pattern

Generating a sketch from sheetmetal flat pattern. So I could easily add tabs, flaps etc.
Either using the "project" tool or a one click convert would be nice and useful.
Otherwise it's not apparently possible without putting the pattern into an assembly and then generating a sketch from that. Which works but kinda clunky.
thanks

That works similarly to other workarounds. (create part studio in context, from assembly). Thanks for the idea.
PROBLEM! with both methods though...ugh, which doesn't really show up until export into other software. .
--When projecting from these derived views into a new sketch, all perimeter lines come up doubled. I'm assuming the software is projecting from both faces of the flat pattern and so getting two edges.
Dealing with all these many many doubled lines is a nightmare.
setting up drawing of a pattern works fine, single lines.
extruding my sketch into parts, then creating a drawing of them works fine as well.
So once again, a way to PROJECT a PATTERN as a FLAT SKETCH would be A+ awesome. even just perimeter. Or maybe an option for perimeter + bend centerlines.. or whatever. . .
thanks
