Team build

Looking for suggestions for a Team build and assembly for sem 1 students.
Something where each students designs a part on own and shares with team and all pieces must assemble.

Any ideas?

How many students do you have? Would the students work in smaller groups or as a whole class?

There a variety of free and inexpensive model IC engine plans available on paper.  Perhaps one of those would make a good project for your class.

I have students design Estes model rockets for 3D printing.  Students work in pairs designing alternating sections.  Each rocket needs to have 4 sections (nose cone, middle tube, bottom tube, and fins). Parts have to assemble tongue and groove and be designed to fit +/- 0.25mm.  We print drawings of the completed designs which are then peer-reviewed before anything is 3D printed.
