Create Selection from Isolate

I've managed to isolate the staircase here, which consists of very many parts. Is there any way to create a selection based on this isolation?

I want to create a composite part. 

This is an imported object.

Here's what I would do:
- Activate composite part feature (no need to close isolate if you already have it set up)
- Activate and set up isolate (if you didn't have it already)
- Box select all of the stair bits by left clicking and dragging with your mouse

When parts are transparent because of isolate/make transparent, they aren't selected in box selects.
