I'm trying to make a hole in a shape but it keeps saying merge scope for some reason.

    Sounds like it doesn't know which part to put the hole into - for merge scope, select the part(s).

    To add an object to the merge scope, click down in the red area (where it says merge scope) and select what objects you want to merge with
