Extrude Issue

January 2021 in Using Onshape

I have a student who is trying to extrude some of his sketches but when he does, it's not creating a solid, it's only extruding the sides. Does anyone know why this would be happening and/or how to fix it?

could it be that he's selected Surface option and edges vs. Solid and Face ?
