Tangent mate does not select all faces

Hi there,
I am a working on a assembly where a rod is supposed to follow the face of a sloped slot.
However, whenever I am trying to place the tangent mate it only selects part of the faces instead of all of them.
Basically, I am trying to reproduce something similar to this:

Initially, I created a center-line for the slot and used the slot feature to create the slot itself. As this didn't work I tried to build the slot using offset lines - which also didn't do the trick.
What am I missing?
