Can you create a 2d laser cut file from a jpg?

Hey there guys 
I am new to Onshape and was wondering If it was possible to trace around an image to produce a cut file.
I was looking to do so with primitives and then clip the lines I dont need.

Yes!  Import image, add it to its own sketch, make a new sketch, and trace.  Then you can export sketch in format you want.

You might also want explore other software options if this is a frequent need.  Lightburn software ($80?) to control CO2 lasers has a built-in trace image feature that would do this automatically to create a cut file or just a DXF from import into another program.  Adobe Illustrator might be another possibility.  Lightburn has a 30-day free trial and some Youtube tutorial videos.

Ill definitely check that out, @michael3424 I know that illustrator has an image trace feature but didnt know about lightburn
