Sketch pattern variables/feature pattern on flat pattern

Does anyone know if there are plans to impliment the ability to assign sketch pattern instance to a variable? And/or is there a plan in the works to impliment the ability to pattern features the were created on the flat pattern? Both of these combined limitations really constricts a particular need for me. I have a product that has a sheet metal part that has many holes punched in it to form a window area. Because the part is configurable and the size of the window needs to be able to change intuitively, not being able to pattern on the flat pattern is very constricting. Does anyone know of a custom feature that allows for flattening sheet metal in the model space and then re bending it over top of cutouts that were applied while unbent?
