Hello Onshape Instructors!

The Ready Lab at the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Toronto is recruiting participants with computer-aided design (CAD) experience to participate in an upcoming paid virtual research study using Onshape. We know the Onshape forum is full of extremely talented and experienced Onshape users and we couldn’t think of a better place to try and tap into this pool of knowledge!

The purpose of the study is to analyze the actions of CAD users to better understand how we can help designers adopt advanced techniques and model more efficiently and effectively. The study will take place remotely over zoom at a time that is convenient for you!

As a research lab interested in studying and improving design education, we are sure we share this passion with many active users on this Instructor Discussion forum. We would love to get your feedback and hear your experiences teaching CAD.

Your participation in the study will be tremendously helpful in developing better tools for future CAD and design studies. We will also use the insights gained from this study to better understand how CAD education can be improved and what tools can be developed to help people better utilize CAD.

We are looking for users who have a minimum of 1 year of Onshape CAD experience, and are comfortable creating and editing moderately complex CAD models in Onshape given engineering drawings. During the study, you will be given a CAD challenge where you will be asked to CAD a model based on a given drawing and later make edits to the model. We will also conduct a short interview during the study. There are no age restrictions for the study!

Since the study will be fully virtual, the participant will need to have access to a computer, microphone and reliable internet for Zoom.

As a token of appreciation, participants will be compensated $15/hr for participation in the study. We expect the study to take a maximum of 90 minutes in total.

Rest assured that all personally identifiable information will be anonymized in all external-facing documents (i.e. publications and presentations) and the study has been gone through a rigorous ethics approval process.

Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, please email James Chen at jame.chen@mail.utoronto.ca (no “s”)
