Spring contraction and retraction feature in assembly

I would like to suggest a Spring feature in assembly, I am making an engine and the difficulties I have encountered is that the intake and exahaust valves does not retract or contract because there is no spring feature.

would it be kind of like a slider mate with some kind of bias pushing it to one side?

If your engine valves are actuated by cams on a shaft, you could probably use a tangent mate to make the valves move with the rotation of the cam shaft.
