Possible to change configurations on shared links?

fstfst Member Posts: 44 ✭✭
Am currently playing with the link sharing feature - this is great!
Have created some example configurations that offer sweetspots of parameter combinations or expose certain variables as configuration parameter etc.
Is it possible to show these configurations in a document that is shared via link?
Thinking about the Thingyverse configurator on steroids, so people without much CAD knowledge can configure a number of domain specific parameters and export the result e.g. as STL or STEP.
Of course they could create an Onshape account, make a copy and edit that with the full capabilities of Onshape (including changing configurations).
But the beauty of the share link variant is that it also works for people without an Onshape account - and it's less daunting, so it is great for people who are not much into CAD but just want to have a model with certain customizations that they can send to a printing/manufacturing service to get a physical piece they can use.

What I often like to do is have one "generator" part studio/assembly with variables driving stuff, then another one with a derive/insert where there is a configuration table that sets all of the variables. Then, if you enable link sharing in the share dialog (with export to allow 3d printing), anyone without an account can access it (note that public, while allowing anyone with an Onshape account to see the doc, doesn't allow anonymous viewing).

    Example doc: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/79039fa12957460fe8c517c3/w/32fdc1227b751fb4a689da75/e/a98732c8cc5806207208a41f?configuration=default

Also note that if you copy a link from the share dialog link sharing menu, it will copy a link to the configuration you are currently viewing (while copying it from the URL bar doesn't include this information)

    Hope this helps!
