Sharing designs and giving editing capabilities

brent_carlinbrent_carlin Member Posts: 7 EDU
I am a teacher and I'm currently having issues with documents that are being shared with me by students. They are selecting 'can edit' when they share documents with me, however from my view these designs are then showing as 'This document is view only'. I've been using Onshape for a few years now in school and never used to have this problem. I have watched the students actually share the documents and can confirm that they do select 'can edit'. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi @brent_carlin

It sounds like you might need to upgrade your account to an Education Standard plan. Go to https://www.onshape.com/en/education/educators and select the Education Standard plan. Fill out the form with your current account details (the same email address) and your account will get upgraded.

EDU plans need to be renewed yearly, otherwise they are downgraded to our free public plan. Public plan users can only make and edit public documents that anyone can search for. EDU and paid accounts, on the other hand, can make and edit private documents that can only be accessed if the user shares the document. Since your students likely have EDU accounts they are creating private documents by default, but you cannot edit the documents because you have a public account instead of EDU.

Hope this helps! If you have any other account specific issues, the best way to get help is to create a support ticket.
