Boolean Subtract Target Selection

Hello,
I've slowly (albeit very slowly) doing basic/introductory tutorials. However, I haven't found an answer to my inability to select Targets properly for a nominal Boolean Subtract operation.
I have two solids:
- Original solid translated by Onshape
- Used Sketch to construct a rectangle on a selected Face on the solid object
- Used Extrude (symmetric option) on the rectangle
- Would like to Subtract the extruded rectangle from the solid object
- Subtract context menu gives me duly:
- Tools
- Targets
- Cannot select the solid or the extruded rectangle (user/operator ignorance)
- Tools has a magenta background
Kind regards.
