Feature pattern incorrect behavior in sheet metal models

Hello,
I have noticed that pattern variables as described by Lindsays Early in their
"Tech Tip: How to Use Variables in Patterns to Vary Features".
only work for sheet metal processing if the sheet metal model is finished first.

Applying the variables creates a surface and does not behave properly.
