Hey all, welcome to another “What’s New in the Onshape App Store.” It’s been far too long – 8 months to be precise – so there’s a ton to catch up on.

First and foremost, I would recommend you watch the highlight reel, as the most pertinent details are contained there. For additional information, follow up below, or visit the app store

App Improvements

Phi

Phi is quickly becoming the tool of choice for Onshape users in need of advanced surfacing techniques. As more users adopt this into their workflow, they’re bringing with them loads of great enhancement requests and feedback. From that, the Phi team has added or improved upon:

  • Mirroring - This enables users to make the most out of symmetry; elements can be symmetric, partially symmetric, or independent from each other. And thanks to recent changes, it's now more flexible and can be changed at any time with the click of a button.

  • The Bridging command has been improved. Build linear or freeform bridges to connect any number of faces or open surfaces!

  • More tools have been added for smoothness. This has seen many improvements and can be done with the click of a single button, or you can control every aspect.

  • They’ve also expanded their handling of mesh data. Now you can crop, subsample, or reduce the density, then turn around and use that in their new mesh to surface workflow. This will enable you to turn scans and meshes into editable b-rep bodies.

In addition to all of the above, they’ve made numerous changes related to the interface and workflow. Things like brush selection, adding vertices to multiple edges at once, automatic reload of reference files, curvature combs, consistency checks, and more. Come try Phi today to explore these new features!

OnScale

OnScale has plenty of great new updates to talk about, but perhaps the most important is their new “CAD Sync” capabilities. With this added associativity, changes from Onshape can be pushed back into OnScale, ensuring the simulation setup doesn’t need to be redefined with each iteration.

On the setup side, you’ll want to use new simulation types and boundary conditions like:

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

  • Modal analysis.

  • New loads like gravity, remote forces/displacements, and torque.

  • Rigid bodies.

Each of these opens up new physics, giving you more accurate results so YOU can make better design decisions.

As you start solving with all these new capabilities, you’ll want to use the new “launcher,” which provides a single source to check the progress of each-and-every solve.

Finally, for all you Professional and Enterprise subscribers, make sure to take advantage of the 500 free core hours that are up for grabs. If you haven't already taken advantage of this, do so now!

Cadasio

Cadasio will change how you create and deliver technical documentation. It allows you to use your native CAD to create interactive assembly and service instructions. This has obvious benefits for the end user, and for the author, it means they can deliver better content, faster.

Cadasio added considerable value to their Professional subscription when the project count increased from 20 to 100. These projects can be consumed anywhere with internet, can be updated instantaneously, and can be optimized for mobile, desktop, or tablet viewing.

To help get these instructions turned around faster, the Cadasio team has been improving their onboarding materials. You’ll now find interactive tutorials to get you started and to help you take advantage of new features.

They’ve been adding highly requested features like vector output, the ability to collaborate with other Cadasio users, selection sets, tables, and more! With a big update due soon and plenty more scheduled, 2022 will be a great year to start creating 3D interactive presentations with Cadasio!

Welcoming New Apps

Emulate3D by Rockwell Automation

This software is best described as a “virtual commissioning” tool. While new to the Onshape App Store, it has been around for almost 20 years, and in that time they’ve helped countless designers emulate industrial automation systems of any size. We’re talking as large as baggage handlers, warehousing, parcel, beverage, packaging, and many more.

Designers use the functionally accurate simulation models in Emulate3D to improve systems planning and to test the control system before installation. This connector enables Onshape designers to pass their designs to Emulate3D, with all the mates, mate limits, and more. Check it out.

Coming Soon

Xometry

Hopefully, you’ve all heard of Xometry before. This trusted on-demand industrial parts marketplace – with over 5,000 suppliers – will soon have an Onshape app. The app will provide instant quoting and lead time estimates for all your manufacturing needs. Expect to hear more soon, or give it a try today

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the Xometry app, because they provide a very good quoting engine, which helps to improve designs for manufacturability and price. One question about the "CAD Sync" in OnScale- I think this is only a benefit if you're a paying subscriber, and not when you "just" have the 500 CH?

@fnxf Happy to help! Per the CAD Sync capabilities for OnScale, that is ONLY a part of their Pro+ accounts (so Pro, Team, or Enterprise). You can find a matrix here: https://onscale.com/solve/pricing/

Thanks, I hadn't found that matrix. Would be neat if OnScale had that as a separate tier.. at the moment though I am happily enjoying the benefits of my Onshape subscription. And I am looking forward to the next time when a message like this pops up:

@Aaron_Magnin any chance we will soon see some CAM? The CAM I am interested in is for 2D cutters such as laser/plasma/water jet with nesting.

@fnxf - Would love to deliver more great news like that!
    @bryan_lagrange - I know you've heard this before, but we're working that...constantly.
