How to cut an object

I'm in need of some help.... I am Designing a part but I need the bottom edge of the extrude to be flat all the way across the part. The line in the picture is where I need it to be cut. imagine the line being a flat surface and I need the part to sit flush I hope this makes sense.

    Create a box under it where your line is and then extude. set it to remove thru all. That should do the trick.

    @NathanMcC Suggestion is a very good way and maybe the cleanest, but depending on the design intent or if you want to know about different options, you could also try the split tool using a plane, surface, or a mate.
