How do I configure polygons?

I would like to be able to configure the number of sides on a polygon, but when I try to select the dimension defining the number of sides, it doesn't let me. Is this functionality not available? It seems fairly straightforward/simple. What am I missing?
I'll note that apparently, it's also not possible to define the number of sides with a variable? Is this the same issue? Again, this seems relatively straightforward. What am I missing?
If the above isn't possible, is anyone aware of any workarounds?

The workaround is to use a feature pattern instead.
You can use a variable to create a "wedge" of the polygon (with the angle equal to 360/#ofsides) and then pattern the sketch with a feature (or create a surface of that wedge and pattern that).
