Mirrored part BOM roll up

Need a way for my BOM to roll up based on the part number.  I've assigned the part 1 and part 2 with same "part number" as "part 1" in the BOM but it won't roll up with a quantity of 2.  Is there a way to accomplish this in the BOM?

Using the mirror function in part studio generates 2 distinct parts. If they are both the same there should be only one with multiple inserts in assembly.

As Glen stated, mirroring in the part studio creates two different parts. If your intent is to use the exact same part on both sides, then it should be created once in the part studio and inserted twice in the assembly.
