Matlab Error: Dot indexing is not supported for variables of this type

I'm trying to use the smexportonshape command to import an assembly into simulink multibody and keep getting this matlab error back. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so how did you fix it? 
The exact error message is:

Dot indexing is not supported for variables of this type.
