cut a curved object

I am attempting to cut a curved object at an angle around the object
the red line is meant to be where i want to cut it

If you can make this as a sheet metal part, it would be easy to add a cut to the flat pattern. Otherwise, if each section is an arc, you can create a set of helix curves and sweep along them.

I dont know how to do sheet metal and i couldnt get the helix to work on it

@S1mon's approach will be the easiest. It should go something like this:

• Trace your profile in a sketch. This should be easy, since your spiral seems to have been created with arcs instead of a spline.
• Use the Sheet metal model feature to extrude the sketch as a sheet metal part.
• Once there is a sheet metal part, you can now use the Sheet metal table and flat view button on the right side of the screen.
• Create a sketch in the flat view of the sheet metal part.
• Extrude the sketch from the flat view to remove the material.
• When finished, use the Finish sheet metal model feature.
