I can't get the external thread function to work properly

Hi.
I am very new to Onshape, and I am slowly finding my way round. I have tried to use the external thread function, and although I can do that without any errors coming up, the thread portion still shows as a smooth cylinder in onshape, and likewise if I export to my slicer as an STL.
I'm sure I am doing something stupid, but I would be very grateful if anyone can help me. I am trying to generate metric threads.

The "standard" thread feature is only for creating "schematic" thread to show on drawings. If you want to 3D print a thread I would recommend using the "threadlabs" feature:
