I can't get the external thread function to work properly

Hi.
I am very new to Onshape, and I am slowly finding my way round. I have tried to use the external thread function, and although I can do that without any errors coming up, the thread portion still shows as a smooth cylinder in onshape, and likewise if I export to my slicer as an STL.
I'm sure I am doing something stupid, but I would be very grateful if anyone can help me. I am trying to generate metric threads.
Thank you.

Im trying to make a 1/4-20 as shown in the picture, but this program did not let me type 1/4( it goes to 0.005 and shown as 5/16)
How could I make it the screw?
If you have the new version, please update for me(or everyone)
Also why are you trying to give a diameter value for pitch? The cylinder modeled for threading should be 1/4" and the pitch for thread tool should be 20.
