Pack and Go in OS

JoshBarnettJoshBarnett Member Posts: 16 PRO
Hi everyone

Is there a method in OS that allows us to move a parent along with all its children... i.e. pack and go in Solidworks

Asking as I have a cluttered document with 100's of redundant parts... and would save much time if I could filter based on dependency

Thanks
Josh

When you say redundant parts, are they multiple copies of the same part? Is each copy in its own tab? Are they all in one document or multiple?

Typically if you move an assembly to another document, you can choose to move the dependent tabs into that document too. If you have multiple copies of the same part in a single part studio, Onshape won't be able to just select the instance you need, it will grab the whole part studio tab.

Was this situation created in Onshape, or is it the result of importing from another system? If it's from an import, there may be ways of managing the export/import settings to avoid some of the mess.

    Thanks for reply @S1mon

Thanks for the link... that method worked great! Would be nice to have a "copy to document" option as well as "move to document"

Be aware that 'copy' will create duplicate parts with identical properties, including part names, part numbers and revision.
I have a similar situation (document with lots of 'leftovers' from the development phase), my aproach is:
    1. organize the large document with all redundant parts in one or more separate folders
    2. move the folders with reduntant parts to a new document (can be moved back any time if needed)

A trick you can do if you want to keep both is to do the "move to document" and then restore to before the move: this won't affect the newly created document during the move. As mentioned it will create duplicates of everything so probably not generally a good idea unless you have a very good reason to want a copy of everything...
