Importing off thingyverse

I am a junior in high school and need help starting using my own project and have no cad experience, but for now I plan on using a "turtle shell racer high power edition" from thingyverse but i have experience the issue of the document showing nothing when I open the document to edit so a larger battery will fit. Please help.

Hi @brandon_pauley files in Thinkverse are in STL format which is not supported by OS.

adding to what @nav points to: STL format is intended for sending finished designs for 3D printing: it really does not lend itself to editing.

Hi @brandon_pauley ,
there are a number of options available to convert your STL to something more "CADish" (as @andrew_troup mentioned).  Run a search for "STL to STEP"  (for example) and you will find a lot of options.

I used FreeCAD by importing the .stl and immediately exporting as .stp.  Worked fine. These were then imported into Onshape. The main issue was that the faces weren't flat and the edges weren't straight but that I think was a legacy of the creation software (Blender).  I have used the models as the basis of newly drawn models.
