Surface Blend Basic Failure

Stuff like this not working I dunno, I like Rhino better now. Very simple split cylinders with naked edges can’t be blended together. I take two extruded cylinders, delete a cap from each and cannot then form a blend surface between those naked edges using Blend.

Two identical surfaces with naked edges pointing at each other can in no way be blended together. There’s just no output. At best I get a sidewinder effect. 

But here’s two rectangular surfaces simply being inert to blending:

Ah, I see simply loft with tangency works:

But fails for cylinders with naked edges, being unresponsive to being edge selected. I can’t even straight loft between naked cylinder edges.

Also, for the love of God, how do I move this divider line down so I can see more actions?!

Loft with match tangent finally works the trick, for the open cylinder ends:
And it still works without even removing the ends first to generate Rhino-like naked edges.
