help..... sweeping along a helix not working with more complex models

in my document here, I try to make the sweep 5 work on a project I am doing.....

but, whenever I try to add a channel in from the center to the helix hole in the body, it will not work.... If I follow a straight path and not the helix, no problem

did I do something wrong? a way to fix it? please help

Trying to sweep sketch 2 in sweep 5 is trying to make something that appears to be nonmanifold geometry. As soon as I brought the inner edge of the sketch away from the center it works.
