I would like to fade line on a surface. Example provided

Hi everybody, I am wondering how to mould something like the following image. I tried different ways but doesn’t even look similar. Any tip you can provide to get to a close result? Look at the thin lines at the end that vanish on the cylinder. Thanks in advance

    In this case, it looks like the basic shape tapers near the top. I suspect that the grooves are along a helix which is cylindrical, but because the body itself tapers, the grooves fade out near the top.

    The "Target as a cylinder" has an interesting trick we use often where a helix is projected onto a non-cylindrical surface. This can be utilized for many interesting things, including cutting scrolls on violins for instance...
