Assembly won't move into place with a second mate. Both mates become corrupted.

Hi. I'm having trouble with assembling two pentagons together along beveled edges. My intension is create a dodecahedron. I am able to create a mate and the two parts move into position. When I put in a second mate, however it ignores the first mate and moves to correspond to the second mate. This also corrupts both the first and second mates. I'm wondering if it's because the edges of the pentagons are not planner to x, y or z axes. I've tried a number of mate types and a number of part features. The first mate works fine. I haven't seen any tutorial or discussion regarding this. I must be missing something. Thank you,
