Adding A Sketch To a Part

david_green479david_green479 Member Posts: 2
I created this model

Apple Magic Keyboard Stand | Apple Magic Keyboard (onshape.com)

Because it's too large for my printer to print all at once I split it in half.  Each half is a Part.   I want to add some alignment tabs to the underside of one of the halves.  If I open one of the Parts, I don't see an option to add a sketch.  I am not finding anything in Google searches. Do I need to create the alignment tab as separate part and then insert it?

First, delete your two assemblies (tab 2 and 3 in your document). Then make a new assembly and bring in both the right and left hand side into that single assembly. You are confusing what is a part and what is an assembly.

Next, go back to your part studio (the first tab in your document). Add whatever alignment feature you want to that. You can union it to only one half if you like.

Now switch back to your assembly and the tab will be there. Its also a good idea to make the left half and the right half a different color so you can easily tell them apart and see how the tabs interact better.

Also FYI there are a few featurescripts that easily add dovetails or finger joints that could be used for gluing up 3d printed parts too big for a printer.
