How to use object to wrap around another object?

I might not be able to explain it correctly so please check the attempt in the photo. In short, i have perfectly fitting matrix (for RGB flexible panel 8x8) and i want to have a flower pot like object which is able to have those dimensions as indents.

I would like it to be able to scale it self so that i don't need to change the dimension of the matrix. I want it to be inside rather than outside. This i what i have tried, the pot like shape has only round corners, i would like it to be indented in sides too.

Thank you.
