Trying to rotate a stl (mesh)

brian_sweetbrian_sweet Member Posts: 12
I am at a loss.  I have created various dice in OpenScad with the help of a program/script someone created.  Exported the STL and now want to import the STL into Onshape and add "fin" supports for resin printing.  I got the idea from a YouTube channel that did it in Fusion 360 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v39yWYqIQ4   I don't use that, and have limited knowledge is Onshape.    The key is to import the mesh, then get it so a point on the dice a few mm from the top plane and the edges of the die are angle up from the top plane.  Then a plane is created to the edge of the dice and a skinny slot is sketched to the edge.  The center line of that slot is projected to the top plane and then a slightly larger slot is sketch on the top plane and a loft is extruded between them.  My challenge is I can't figure a way to rotate the mesh file to create the sketches.

Here is the die I imported https://cad.onshape.com/documents/7cf26fb4ad71595c5e1a85bd/w/33854ff6034b23ace0b5e22c/e/e1227b68d92ba75ad4431511

Any pointer or videos that might help me learn to work with mesh moving would be greatly appreciated.  I don't want to use Fusion to do this process.

Try to create a new plane so you can draw a construction line to be the axle for a Transform-Rotate.

    The solution worked for me!

I drew a vertical line for an axle to rotate around.

Then I measured the angle between one side of the object and the plane the axle was drawn on. I copied that number and pasted it in when I used the Transform-Rotate tool.

A combination of Transform-Rotate and Transform by Distance tools eventually got my imported STL object to be square with the Right and Front planes..

    Thank you dirk_van_der_vaart !!!
