Move Face while keeping edges?

Hi all,
I'm trying to indent a the bottom of a part so I can create a drain hole. IN the image below, I'll eventually remove the center square. But I'd like the four trapezoids to all slope downwards at the center. My thought initially was to try splitting the face and trying to move that center square dozen in Z while somehow keeping the edges attached so that they all move with the face. Instead, move face will create new, vertical faces.
I'm also open to other suggestions here. I guess the broader question is how to create a pyramidal dent in a surface, particularly when there's no guarantee of symmetry.
