Importig STEP files from Fusion 360

I have already posted this question, but can't find it back, so that's why I'm postig it again.

I have been working in Autodesk fusion 360 so far and am completely done with it. It's unstable, gets terribly slow on large designs, and I've lost work several times because the application crashed.

I've been looking into OnShape and I really like it. So I would now like to switch to OnShape. But I have several designs that I want to convert to OnShape. That works fine using the STEP format, but I lose all groupings and object names.

I therefore did the following. I exported all groups of objects from Fusion 360 separately to different STEP files and imported these step files into OnShape in separate documents in one folder.

So far so good. This way the grouping is maintained. But now I can't get any further.

I now have a number of documents (with groups of objects from fusion 360) all in one folder. That still means that I have to manually change the names of those objects, but I'm very happy that I was able to keep the grouping.

Now I can display and edit all those documents separately, but how do I display them all together. Can I create a document that consists of multiple 'sub' documents, and display and edit it as one? It is not entirely clear to me how to do that.
Have a nice day,
Tom...

I think you are asking about assemblies? In Fusion, they had part design and "assembly" in the same section. In OS (and every other CAD system but Fusion), you do the modeling in one area, and assembly in a separate area. OS calls the modeling area "part studio" and the asm area "assembly studio".

Go through the assembly basic training in the training center and you'll be able to add all of your imported step files into an assembly. Depending how complex your project is, you may want to make several sub-asm's, then place each of those subs into a top-level asm.

Also to add, OS has 3 different options when importing step files from other systems. I personally use the one on the right the most, that says "combine to one part studio". I find that to be the most user friendly, especially when importing assemblies.
