Unable to select surface between two offset splines

Hi,

I have a sketch which uses spline from another sketch. Then I offset this spline in two directions. I'd like to be able to select the two resulting surfaces, however I'm only able to select one. Selecting the first surface works as expected:
However, when I try to select the surface between the first one and the inside of the smallest curve, I can't do it. It always selects everything:
What am I doing wrong? Any idea how to fix this?
