Unable to extrude sketch

emil_rydbergemil_rydberg Member Posts: 6
Hello,

I'm relatively new to CAD modeling and Onshape. Currently, I'm working on modifying an adapter to suit my requirements.

In the provided project link, my objective is to extrude (cut) "Sketch 1" from "Part 1" and replace the removed section with "Part 2". It's worth noting that "Part 2" was created using the extrude "New" feature using a vertex. Currently, I can only use "New" with the extrude on my "Sketch 1".

Here's a clearer breakdown of what I aim to achieve:

1. Extrude "Sketch 1" to a thickness of 2.5mm (if possible).
2. Rotate the extruded part by 180 degrees.
3. Union the two resulting parts together.

Feel free to ask questions if I make myself unclear.

I'm wondering if there's a simpler way to accomplish this task. You can access the project through the following link:

Hello Emil. The reason you cannot Extrude Remove and only Extrude New is because it is an STL file and you cannot interact with it in Onshape. Onshape deals with solids and surfaces; Part 1 is neither. You may be able to go to the source of your file and see if it is available in another format that you can use in Onshape. Another option is to remodel it yourself; you are well on your way. Yet another option is to do a a search of Onshape's Public documents to see if it's already been modeled by another Onshape member. - Scotty

Onshape has been able to do "mixed modeling" for over a year, wherein mesh models can be modified by parametric solid and surface features. It can be twitchy, but it does work.

Ah, okey. That seems to be the case in my situation. I did end up solving it, but I believe there is a quicker way. Here is a link to the document where I fixed the model. I also added threads for each hole, which did end up taking a lot more time than I anticipated. I had to first extrude a small portion of each hole, then use extrude to later on use ThreadCreator on.

This might be what I am looking for, although I did end up resolving it. I am convinced that the way I accomplished this is not the best, and there's got to be a quicker and better way. Will definitely look into this though. Thanks for your effort :)

I have another issue regarding extrude "remove", although for another file. This file has a bunch of surfaces which I have made a composite part of. If possible, I would like to get help with this aswell. I am a beginner and have still much to learn, and appreciate any help given :)
For this one I have a video and hope this will make things clearer.
