A loft between two surfaces doesn't seem to create a solid - it can't be 'shelled'?

I created a loft between a 3x4mm rectangular sketch and a circle 40mm away. Now I want to hollow out the resulting solid (actually I want the surface of the loft to be the inside, with 2-3mm solid outside). However, I can't seem to use the 'shell' or 'extrude' tools to do this - it seems the loft shape isn't a solid - what have I done wrong here?
TIA,
Frank

I'm unsure if I understood completely but you should be able to shell it. If you want the surface of the loft to be inside, use either move face or thicken. I think the results would be better if you lofted the outside though.

Not sure why you are trying to use an Offset Surface. INSTEAD use an Offset plane. Make sure one of the Sketches is on the Offset Plane. Then simply Loft between the two Sketches.
Shell will work just fine then...
