D2 tower skeletion

Hi,
I am trying to replicate the D2 tower from Paris (see first picture).
I am really clueless about how to replicate the skeleton going all around the building.
So far I've been playing around with a mix of curve patterns, and intersections but really not happy with that method (see second picture).
Any advice would be greately appreciated thanks.
