One method to wrap a pattern around a irregular shaped object

I think I found a way to wrap a pattern around an irregular object, in my case a "vase".

First create the pattern, wrap it around a temporary larger cylinder and include the vase as part of the Merge Scope, delete the pattern and cylinder.
Some fiddling of the pattern size is necessary to join the pattern on the back side.



I hope someone finds this useful.

If there is a better method, please provide.

That's a cool find. Similar to how you can trick the decal tool into putting graphics on non-flat or cylindrical surfaces. Clearly these tools can manage more complex shapes.

I took a closer look and implemented the idea with other features. This allowed me to reduce the regeneration time from about 38 seconds to 12 seconds. The result is very similar. The advantages are the performance and the lack of a gap at the wrap seam. Have a look.
