How to align screw threads in a mate?

I have modelled a bolt and a nut, and inserted both into a assembly. Then I fixed the bolt, and added mates to both the bolt and the nut.
I then used those mates in a cylindrical mate, and the nut then slides along the bolt as it should. I added a screw mate with the correct distance per revolution (pitch), and it works. However, I also want the threads to align properly when doing a cross section, and this is where I am struggling.
I can't seem to find a reliable method for doing this. I've tried moving the parts to an aligned position before adding the screw mate, but when adding the screw mate it screws up... :-)
Edit: While writing this, I discovered that I can seemingly get this to work by moving one of the mates (edit the mate) and rotate it about the z-axis. My question then becomes: Is this the best/most correct way of doing what I want?

One thing to consider is if the nut and bolt were modeled together (both parts in the same part studio), then they would be automatically aligned in the assembly and rotating about the Z axis would not be necessary.

But rotating one of the mates about the Z axis is easily workable for cases like this, it's just that I didn't realize it at first. I tried numerous other ways that didn't work before discovering that rotation fixed it.
