Bug that is not a Bug

don_bdon_b Member Posts: 115 ✭✭
 shown is a screen shot of a drawing of an assembly....those items with a center line required a center line inserted to the assembly drawing to be able to see the angles ....one can not dimension those items at the assembly drawing....the interesting part about this is that those items were move/translated at the assembly level and they were curved not straight....those items not so moved or that were straight (and moved or not moved/translated) can be dimensioned.

I reported this as a bug and was told it was not a bug....so beware move of items at assembly ....that being said considering what I pay for this software I can not complain.

    Sorry, I don't want this to sound rude, but are you asking for advice on how to dimension drawing - or are you just warning us about moving items in assemblies? Looks like you used the frame generator - If so, why did you need to move items in the assembly?

    Sort of a warning and perhaps try to help out the platform and give back a little....no not frame generator those details are individually placed and as I started the assembly of the wing I saw that I wanted/needed to edit locations....I found it sometimes  easier to move the ribs and braces at the assembly rather than in context..... I figured out that any translations at the assembly do not move the part studio part location ....it was strange to me that the drawing of the assembly did not allow the pick of certain elements/details.....those that are curved and been translated.....those that are curved and not been translated were able to be picked in the drawing plot.

    I do not know how to use the frame generator.

    @don_b - Hello
    I would highly recommend that you take the time to learn about "frames". Yes, there is a learning curve, but the results are fantastic for what you are doing. You can also add custom profiles if the stock content doesn't have what you want (but it's fairly complete). The side benefit is, all you sketch is the center-lines - and you control position with that sketch (very robust). All the benefits are to many to list here, but trust me, your work is the kind of thing they made this for.
    The trickiest part is figuring out how to use the end trim options, but once you get it figured out, it automatically copes all ends of tubes - this alone is worth the time spent learning how to use "frames".  Good luck

    I have the feeling support is correct that this is not a bug but I am not completely positive of what the issue is you are having?  The support folks are super helpful (even when your often accidentally venting off steam to them like I am guilty of) but I assume they are super busy.  I have found sometimes if I cannot present the issue I am having in a super clear way right from the start, the troubleshooting can sometimes get directed down the "this person needs to learn more" pathway rather than the "this person has a legit issue" pathway.

    You are absolutely right that I need to learn more...I really do not have a legit issue...there are easy work arounds for what I needed to do ....I was just trying to help here.

    here is a link to the drawing....and trying to pick some of the lines does not work...which seems like a bug to me

    The tubes intersect on the main spar not at the center lines but at the top or bottom of top tube or bottom tube the curved ribs profile each is different and the top is an intersection with surfaces ......I would imagine frames might be made to work I am more interested on getting this monster done than being an Onshape expert.
