Can't copy/paste variables from older version of document

I'm sure this was something that was possible before the most recent update? I want to copy and paste variables from cells in the value column on the Variables table, but in the old version I want to copy from, I can't select the text.
Any way around this? I don't really want to have to type it all manually again.
