fillets and complex curves
Hi. I've been trying to round the edge of a complex curve but i can't do it.
I'm trying to do something like the rounding on the front of the grip, the part behind the trigger and lower frame on a 1911 but fillet or sweeping always gives me bad results. Do i have to make several parts and join them or can i use a spline and sweep it??

You may have to make several parts, smooth the edges how you like (Fillet, Chamfer, Loft), then merge the parts back together with Boolean.
If you need more specific help, please share a link to your document with either copy or edit access.
Behind the trigger area on the grip, I would loft the edge from the outside of the grip to where it meets the trigger area. Then merge that part with the main grip. This will give you that flat looking sweep.

This is a case for surface modelling, not filleting solids. Try making sketches on appropriately offset planes.
Ok, in this case, your fillet wasn't working because your line segments in the sketch were not tangent to each other. Make sure you apply the right constraints in your sketch. Fillets require good curvature, so also check to see if there are any complex splines and replace them with simple and clean.
