Part imported as composite part made of surfaces

Hello all,
I have imported a tree stump that imported as a composite part with invalid geometry and is made up of 14 surfaces, no parts.
I am trying to cut a hole through the center but I cannot because it is not a part. I cannot seem to fill/fix the part, thank you for any help!

Complex STL files are going to be a challenge. There are 3rd party tools which might help.
