Sheet Metal and Mirrored part question

Hi all,

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/769333ed394d42bc3e118b5d/w/1e08bcd9af861c60089739f8/e/b999c0f62b6a4c99062cb6cd?renderMode=0&uiState=66cb0cb79d73292750a32ff9

I'm struggling with a few features. I have created a sheet metal part with a flange, i don't seem able to lengthen the flange past the edge of the part as shown below. Is this possible? I have tried playing around with offsets but i'm a little confused and i tend to brake it.

So as a work around i created a new sheet metal part off of the edge where the arrow is which created a new part 'Part 2'.

While i can draw of this I'm not able to add fillets so i thought i would try a different way and added the feature but i'm not able to extrude it.

My question is, how am i best to approach this as i'm not sure how to achieve what i want?

My last question is, once i have mirrored this, how can i make changes to the mirrored part without it affecting the original part? I want to remove some of the flanges and also slightly modify the shape as they are not completely symmetrical but are close that i think mirrored part would be the best starting point.

Many thanks from a complete novice who is enjoying the process of learning CAD.

Have a study of this example. I changed some sequencing for the Flange and used Tab after the mirror. Also, you can trim in the flat view.

Many thanks Glen, i will have a play with your example and see what i can achieve. I didn't think about editing in flat view so i'll also give that a go.

Definitely have a run through the simultaneous sheet metal course.
