Need mate connector technique assistance!

Hey folks,
I'm getting better at using Onshape mates and mate connectors but one continued challenge for me is getting the mate connector oriented the way I want. I know that you can use "offset" to alter the orientation of the way the mate resolves but I've found that to be cumbersome.
With onshape, when creating a mate connector - either independently or "on the fly" is there any way to easily control which way the mate connector is oriented? I would like to select a vertex and be able to control which way the axis point. Is there a way to do this?

Depending on the references that you're using, you may be able to change the orientation. For instance, if you're creating a MC at the origin, hold down shift, and then you can choose the various axes.
In general, you can easily flip the Z direction and/or make 90 degree rotations around the Z axis as you're creating it. You can go further, and edit the mate connector afterwards and use the realign option to point Z in any direction.
See this video for some demos of how to edit mate connectors.
