Newbie lost with Construction option

I am trying to create a construction line inside a rectangle, but I cannot get it to show.
i am clicking the point, and the construction tool, so it finds the middle of the rectangle and when i click and drag to the other end, I see some lines, and then it just disappears .
How does it work, since i am looking on you tube, and they all show the same, but it ain't working for me.. no matter what i try.
so it's got to be something simple.

Hello Perry. The point tool is meant to be used with one click. There is no drag to it. The lines you see may be indicators of it being vertical or horizontal to another reference point. Try the line tool. Is that what you want to do what you described? - Scotty
