"Introduction to Sketching" module's final sketch is underdefined

chad_chaffeechad_chaffee Member Posts: 13

Hello. As per the title, the final quiz question is not truly possible (at least not with any reliable accuracy). The inner circle and middle vertical lines are not defined in the module, which allows for significant variations in the final product. Isn't really a big deal for me, but I noticed that some teachers are trying to use this in their classes and I foresee this being a head ache. Just trying to help. Here are some pics to illustrate:

Perhaps I'm missing something, but it seems like a small oversight. Thanks.

At step 3 it shows (poorly) that all 3 vertical lines on the rigth side are equals.

I don't see the origin. Something in that sketch must be 'anchored' to it either by having a vertex coincident with it or by dimensioning a vertex to it. Without doing that it's just floating somewhere. In addition to that, there isn't a dimension to define the total height of the sketch. Adding a dimension to the larger circle is an easy way to fix that. - Scotty

I apologize. I don't think I was very clear in my first post. There are several ways to fix this. I was simply pointing out the problem.

This is the original exercise. There is no total height, no total circle diameter, no inner circle diameter, nor is there a height defined for the inside vertical line. This allows for both of my previously posted sketches to fit the definitions given here. But this becomes a problem for the final quiz question in the unit.

Depending on how the learner defines any one of those missing parameters, the area of the shaded region will be different.

Again, I know how it CAN be fixed, I'm simply trying to draw attention to the fact that it NEEDS to be fixed. Thanks.

OH! Yes, I completely missed that. They should definitely emphasize that in the instructions, but otherwise that fixes the issue. Thanks for pointing that out @STEG .
