Composite parts and BOM
Hi,
I have a Part Studio consisting of a number of frames which form an enclosure.
I have grouped those parts into a composite part.
When I insert the composite part into an assembly only the composite part shows in the BOM.
What is the recommended practice to avoid having to insert/ group al of the frame parts individually but still have then referenced in the BOM?
Thank you.

You can insert an entire part studio as rigid. This will insert all the parts within a studio and keep them grouped together. Also you can set items don't want to see in the bom as "Exclude from bom" in the part properties.

Sure thing! Yep, but a cut list will not show in the assembly, it only shows back in the part studio unfortunately.
Yes, you can simply filter your insert into the assembly so that it only picks the composite part and not all of the floating pieces. I've added some useful functionality to the Cut List+ custom feature, some of it may be helpful for you:

Thank you.
A follow up question.
My test part studio has four frames - two long sides and two short sides of an enclosure base.
Each of the sides is a separate part even though in the real world the sides will use identical parts as will the front and rear pair.
I allocated the same part name to the 2 sides and and another part name to the front / rear pair.
In the BOM, the 4 parts are listed as 1 off of each of each rather than being consolidated into 2 off of each.
Is there a way to consolidate in the BOM based on part name or some another attribute or do I need to separately assembly individual parts to achieve that?
Thank you.
The assembly isn't currently set up to recognize frames and consolidate them. So if you wanted to see them properly in the bom you would have to re-construct the frames as an assembly which would be counter productive.
There is a feature called Cutlist and it will give you the cut list and count for all the frames. It automatically consolidates them. It is sort of a Frame BOM. Once you use the Cutlist feature in the part studio, a new icon will appear on the right side of your part studio.

Got it thank you!
So a separate cut list for each profile type and then add the generated composite parts to the main assembly?
Is there a way to make the composite parts a rigid group when inserting or does this need to be done as a separate operation?
