Extruding an STL

price_cobbprice_cobb Member Posts: 35

Hey folks, I'm stuck trying to do what I felt I'd done before but spinning my wheels and need help.

This started as a file for an STL that I downloaded from Printables by the gent who penned it. I'm applying some items he came up with to a new printer of mine.

Apparently my 5" HDMI screen is the latest so of course, different. All I want to do is to move the screen away to give more room behind it for cables etc.

I imported the file, noticed that the "ledge" of the screen was not at the angle of the top lip (no clue why) and eventually split the part to add 5mm to it.

Problem is that I can't get all of the split surface to extrude the 5mm I need. Some of it does, but almost half gets silly and does not. Could be my computer for sure.

Anyway, I've included a screen shot here where I've separated the split parts and have extruded one small part of one of the surfaces to show my intent.

I've shared this with you guys as well as here is the link. https://cad.onshape.com/documents/5b3df8afd2d787ddcfcc01e7/w/c24b22c22792c5ba48fd0848/e/b8aee557e0b19000f19786b2?renderMode=0&uiState=66f5fe0d9dc4f21282a32508

I look forward to suggestions or "hey silly, this can't be done". No worries as I can easily design one from scratch myself. Of course using an existing file typically speeds up the process.

TYVM. Sincerely, PDC
