Shell on oval face?

ed_comptoned_compton Member Posts: 2

I'm trying to make a shell on the face of an oval surface (see pictures)

and it's saying that it can't shell parts with selections. What's the deal?

Can you share a public document? There's most likely a place where the shell would be greater than the minimum radius of the outer surface.

As an alternative, maybe duplicate the part, translate along the centre line then subtract the duplicate

It's not liking the sharp tip…
That said, that seems a bit odd as it should be mathematically possible to offset the faces of the cone. I checked and it doesn't work with a circle as the profile either.

It looks like the only case where this works is with a circle instead of an ellipse and the circle centered with the pointy end. (i.e. a "perfect" cone).

I would submit a ticket as that seems like unexpected limitation. The workaround is to chop up the pointy end so it has "some" width (more than the thickness you want to use for your shell), i.e. use a small circle instead of a point, or chop off the pointy bit before your shell
