Why is this simple sweep not working?

jim_mackrazjim_mackraz Member Posts: 6

Am I missing something basic? I've had this working, tapered threads, etc. At some point (change of "tooth profile"?) it just started failing, and even after simplifying it baffles me why it "could not create valid swept body" Surface is normal to the helix, helix pierces the surface. What's not to like? thx

    Hey Jim,

I suspect this is due to the fact that the path does not terminate with the mate connector. Sweeps can get tricky if the path and sketch plane are too missaligned, or the path verticies are far from the sketch plane/mate connector. Try splitting the helix with the mate connector and then sweeping.

    Thanks,

Thanks much. I bet that would have worked. I have the usual 3-piece cone-cyl-cone for wrapping threads. When I removed the helix around one cone, it swept the other two helixes fine. Then I just swept the terminating face down the other helix and I was good to go.

    Basically, sweeps are kind dicey.

On the other hand, now that I got this working, I can use configurations to repurpose the solution without messing with it, too often.
